Low Point

I’d have to say in my 3 1/2 years as a parent, the past month have been my least enjoyable so far. The Boy is suddenly become completely disagreeable.
Me: Can you put on your socks?

The Boy: I am NOT putting on my socks!

Me: Okay, don’t put them on then.

TB: I’m GOING to put on my socks!
Substitute socks with just about any subject and you get an idea of how our conversations have been going lately. And when he’s not angry or bossing us around, he’s whining about it.

GEEEEEEEEEZE!

Eventually I get so fed up I end off pulling the “Parent” card and just put the damn socks on for him, or whatever he happens to be disagreeing about that minute. Not the way I saw myself as a parent.

I always thought my relationship with The Boy would flourish under subtle, benevolent, easy-going guidance. I’d never have to raise my voice or force him to do anything because we’d have this mutual understanding. Now I’m lucky if I manage to negotiate a settlement before we both dig our heels in.

Please! Tell me it’s just a phase. I need something to look forward to.
